The Three Yuan — Upper, Middle and Lower — each span 60 years; the Nine Periods are nine 20-year phases, each paired with a trigram and an element. Period Nine belongs to Li, the fire trigram — light, screens, images, media, artificial intelligence, the eyes and the heart, reputation and discernment.
